Lesson 3 JDBC case study
ObjectiveDescribe the case study and role you will play as a JDBC programmer

JDBC Case Study

The World Health Association has launched a research program with the intent of gathering human health trends across populations.
With this information, researchers will identify health and illness trends in order to prepare the medical community with focused training, medicine, and treatment recommendations. A team of computer science and Information Technology consultants has been recruited to make this program a reality. As a new member of this diverse team, you will assist in developing a system that views and modifies the databases of healthcare facilities in Brazil to its Healthcare Administration Intranet.
  1. Proxy pattern: A pattern for implementing access to remote objects that provides a local object having the same interface as the remote object.
  2. Network address:The information that is required to access the skeleton of a remote object somewhere on a remote host.
  3. Design pattern: A generalized solution to a common frequently occurring object oriented design problem.

Project Assessment

The team will assess the Brazilia Region of the country, a region that is considered sparsely populated--specifically the states Goias (population 5 million), Mato Grosso (population 1.8million), and Mato Grosso do Sul (population 1.9 million). This part of Brazil, with its extensive savannahs and tropical grasslands, is a wildlife paradise. Your customer, Dr. Jonathan Michael, requests that the team begin with a pilot program in a few cities, with a dozen doctors and records related to their specializations and hospitals. You will have to use Java-based technology, including JDBC, to accomplish the program goals.

The Brazilian Hospital Database Project will allow you to apply your new JDBC knowledge and skills.
To start, let's see what Dr. Jonathan Michael requests from his hospital database system in the next lesson.
